Collier County
Demolition across Collier County, area by area
Collier County covers about as many kinds of land as Florida has: beachfront, canal islands, farmland, drained wetland and fishing villages. This is what matters in each place, and who issues the permit.

- NaplesNaples writes its demolition rules down in more detail than most cities. Neighbors get a notice and an offer letter, the permit is released fourteen days later, and it expires thirty days after it is issued. The crew has to be ready the day the paper is.Demolition in Naples →
- Old NaplesIn the City of Naples, a demolition permit for a contributing building on the historic district map cannot be issued until 180 days after the completed application is accepted. In Old Naples, that single line can decide whether a project is worth starting.Demolition in Old Naples →
- Marco IslandMarco Island was cut into a grid of canals and seawalls after the Deltona Corporation bought it in 1964. Almost every lot touches water, so a demolition here is as much about the seawall and the groundwater as about the house.Demolition in Marco Island →
- Everglades CityEverglades City runs no building department of its own. Under an interlocal agreement signed in July 2018, Collier County provides the building services, so a demolition here follows the county's file even though the property sits inside a city.Demolition in Everglades City →
- ChokoloskeeThe highest storm surge the National Weather Service surveyed in Collier County after Hurricane Irma was eight feet at the Smallwood Store on Chokoloskee. Most of the island saw three to five feet, which is why floodplain review comes up on nearly every job here.Demolition in Chokoloskee →
- GoodlandGoodland sits on a small peninsula just off Marco Island, and Hurricane Irma hit it hard. The weather service found five to six feet of water at the waterfront and three to four across town.Demolition in Goodland →
- Isles of CapriIsles of Capri began in 1955 as four mangrove islands that Leland Loach bought, dredged and joined. Everything here was built on fill beside water, so a demolition touches docks, seawalls and a very short distance to the next lot.Demolition in Isles of Capri →
- ImmokaleeImmokalee is a farm town in unincorporated Collier County whose population rises and falls with the harvest. Many of its homes are trailers, and housing groups there have spent years replacing the worst of them.Demolition in Immokalee →
- Golden Gate EstatesGolden Gate Estates was sold lot by lot by the Gulf American Land Corporation, and some buyers saw their land only from the air in the dry season. Decades later, the wetlands those buyers could not see are the first thing a demolition has to respect.Demolition in Golden Gate Estates →
- Bayshore and Gateway TriangleThe Bayshore Gateway Triangle is a community redevelopment area that Collier County created in 2000 to address blight. It lies in unincorporated East Naples, so the county, not the City of Naples, permits a demolition there.Demolition in Bayshore and Gateway Triangle →
- Naples ParkNaples Park is a grid of small lots just north of the City of Naples, many with homes from about 1960. Current listings sell some of them as redevelopment parcels, where the old house is worth less than the ground under it.Demolition in Naples Park →
- Vanderbilt BeachA demolition on the Gulf side of Collier County's coastal construction control line needs a state permit in addition to the local one. The line is a permit trigger, not a ban, but it changes the order of work on Vanderbilt Beach.Demolition in Vanderbilt Beach →
- Ave MariaAve Maria was founded in 2005 at Oil Well and Camp Keais Roads by Barron Collier Companies and the Ave Maria Foundation. Almost nothing here is old, so demolition tends to mean a builder's site or an accessory structure, not a worn-out house.Demolition in Ave Maria →
Questions
Things to know in Collier
Do I need a permit to demolish in Collier County?
Almost always, for anything structural. The office depends on the address: the City of Naples and the City of Marco Island run their own building departments, while Collier County permits the unincorporated areas and handles building services for Everglades City. If Romco is hired, we assemble and file the application as contractor of record and book each inspection through the last one. Check the requirements with the office that covers your parcel.
Where in the county do you take jobs?
Anywhere: Naples and its neighborhoods, Marco Island, Isles of Capri, Goodland, Chokoloskee and Everglades City, Golden Gate Estates, Immokalee and Ave Maria. Fort Lauderdale is our base. Permit offices each publish a separate checklist, and your parcel's is the one we work from.
