Concrete removal in Collier County

Concrete removal covers driveways, patios, garage slabs, pool decks and the pads left when a building has gone. It looks simple and usually is not, because of what lies beneath.

A weathered concrete pier with steel railings and a rusted bollard reaching into choppy blue-green water.

Under a Collier County slab there may be irrigation lines, a well pipe, a septic line or a cable no one mapped. Sunshine 811 gets the call, and private lines are located as well, since 811 does not mark what an owner installed.

Weight is the other factor. A broken-out slab is heavy, so clean concrete is kept apart from wood, soil and trash and recycled wherever a facility accepts it. Mixed loads cost more and go to fewer places.

On a lot that may be rebuilt, the slab can matter to the flood design. Taking out fill or a raised slab can change the elevation a new building must meet, so the permit office is worth asking before a structural slab comes out.

Photos, the approximate area and the plan for the space are enough for a quote. Breakout, haul and restoration appear as separate items.

Order of work

  1. Marking of what comes out and what stays
  2. Sunshine 811 call and private line locates
  3. Check with the permit office on whether a permit applies
  4. Saw-cut edges to protect what remains
  5. Breakout, with concrete and steel separated at loading
  6. Haul to a facility that takes clean concrete
  7. Fill, grade and finish

Common snags

What tends to hold these jobs up, and our answer to each

Lines nobody mapped

Irrigation, wells, septic lines and cables may lie below. Public and private lines are located before breaking.

Loads that mix

Clean concrete recycles and mixed debris does not. The two streams stay apart.

Slabs with a job to do

A slab can tie into walls, columns or a flood design. We check its role first.

Noise and dust

Breaking concrete in a neighborhood is loud and dusty. Water and agreed hours keep it in bounds.

Where our role ends

Permit requirements for breaking out concrete turn on the scope and the office. Septic lines, wells and utility connections are handled by licensed trades or the utilities, and we arrange that work.

Questions

About concrete removal

Is a permit needed to remove a driveway or patio?

Often not for simple flatwork, and often yes for a slab that carries a structure. The office decides, so we check before pricing.

Is the removed concrete recycled?

When a facility will take it, yes. Clean concrete is kept separate from the rest of the debris for that reason.

What goes into the cost of a demolition?

A quote comes after we visit the property, or after we review photos and drawings that show enough. The price follows the building's materials and height, the asbestos survey, utility and septic work, how machines reach the lot, what stays, and where the debris goes. We do not publish prices, because two lots that look alike seldom cost alike.

Is there a size limit on the jobs you price?

No limit. Sheds, pools, slabs and single walls get a quote, and so do whole buildings, selective or structural. Describe what stands on the lot and what must stay, and the price follows that description.

Is Romco Builders licensed?

Yes. Romco Builders is a Florida-licensed general contractor with headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Some tasks need a license or permit of their own, among them asbestos abatement, electrical disconnects, septic abandonment and tree removal. Those go to the firms or agencies with that authority, and we fit them into a single schedule.

Start to finish

Six stages in a fixed order

  1. Send the address and the scope

Ring us or use the quote form, and attach photos or drawings if you have them. Give the area, what has to go and what has to stay.

  2. We walk the site

We visit the lot and look at the building, the utility connections, septic or sewer, the flood zone, how machines and trucks will get in, and the neighbors.

  3. Written scope and quote

A written quote lists what comes out, what is shielded, and what leaves by truck. Anything that depends on a survey is marked.

  4. Surveys, permit and disconnects

Required asbestos testing, utility shutoffs and septic abandonment happen here, and the permit goes to the office that covers your parcel.

  5. Demolition and haul-off

The crew follows the agreed order of work. Debris is taken to permitted facilities, and load records are kept.

  6. Final inspection

The permit is closed by the building department after its last inspection, leaving a clear lot or the shell you requested.
