Pool removal in Collier County

A pool in Collier County usually sits under a screen cage, beside a lanai, in ground where water is a few feet down. Each of those shapes how it comes out.

An overhead view of terracotta tile roofs with two small backyard swimming pools among palms and trees.

There are two ways to retire one. A partial removal breaks the floor so water cannot collect, then fills the shell. A full removal also takes out the walls and shell. Both are priced so they can be compared, and the choice turns on whether anything will be built on the spot.

The cage comes first. It is aluminum framing anchored to the deck or the house, and a careful crew detaches it without damaging the lanai roof. Then the deck, the plumbing and the equipment pad follow.

Water control belongs to the job. When the dig reaches the water table, pumps keep the cut dry and the water they remove is sent only where discharge is permitted. Romco's own crews perform dewatering, so it is not handed to another firm.

Fill is the last step and the one that matters if you build later. An engineer sets the material and compaction, and records are kept. The quote begins with photos of the pool and yard and a word about what the space will become.

Order of work

  1. Yard visit and a decision between partial and full removal
  2. Check with the permit office on whether a permit applies
  3. Equipment disconnect by the licensed trades
  4. Cage and deck removal
  5. Floor break or shell removal, with dewatering where needed
  6. Fill placed in compacted lifts
  7. Final grade and surface

Common snags

What tends to hold these jobs up, and our answer to each

Groundwater in the cut

Shallow water enters a deep pool cut. We dewater and control the discharge.

The screen cage

Cage framing ties into the house or lanai. It is separated without damaging the structure.

Fill that settles

Loose backfill sinks over time. Where you will build, an engineer sets compaction.

Tight yards

Fences, gates and neighbors limit machine access. The route is planned first.

Where our role ends

An electrician handles disconnecting the pool equipment. The permit office, not us, decides whether a pool removal needs a permit and which fill it will accept.

Questions

About pool removal

Should a pool be filled or fully removed?

The answer comes from your plans for the space. Filling the shell is the lighter job, but where a building will go on top, an engineer should weigh in on removing the shell and on compaction.

Does the screen cage come down too?

Usually, yes. It is detached carefully from the deck or lanai and hauled with the other debris.

What goes into the cost of a demolition?

A quote comes after we visit the property, or after we review photos and drawings that show enough. The price follows the building's materials and height, the asbestos survey, utility and septic work, how machines reach the lot, what stays, and where the debris goes. We do not publish prices, because two lots that look alike seldom cost alike.

Is there a size limit on the jobs you price?

No limit. Sheds, pools, slabs and single walls get a quote, and so do whole buildings, selective or structural. Describe what stands on the lot and what must stay, and the price follows that description.

Is Romco Builders licensed?

Yes. Romco Builders is a Florida-licensed general contractor with headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Some tasks need a license or permit of their own, among them asbestos abatement, electrical disconnects, septic abandonment and tree removal. Those go to the firms or agencies with that authority, and we fit them into a single schedule.

Start to finish

Six stages in a fixed order

  1. Send the address and the scope

Ring us or use the quote form, and attach photos or drawings if you have them. Give the area, what has to go and what has to stay.

  2. We walk the site

We visit the lot and look at the building, the utility connections, septic or sewer, the flood zone, how machines and trucks will get in, and the neighbors.

  3. Written scope and quote

A written quote lists what comes out, what is shielded, and what leaves by truck. Anything that depends on a survey is marked.

  4. Surveys, permit and disconnects

Required asbestos testing, utility shutoffs and septic abandonment happen here, and the permit goes to the office that covers your parcel.

  5. Demolition and haul-off

The crew follows the agreed order of work. Debris is taken to permitted facilities, and load records are kept.

  6. Final inspection

The permit is closed by the building department after its last inspection, leaving a clear lot or the shell you requested.
