Asbestos coordination for demolition in Collier County

Asbestos is a step in the schedule. Before a regulated demolition, a licensed consultant surveys the building, a filing goes to the state, and a licensed firm removes what the work will disturb.

A wide field of broken concrete slabs, bricks and timber with a tall chimney in the distance.

Romco coordinates the parties and does not perform abatement. The consultant is independent, so the survey does not hinge on who is bidding. The abatement firm brings its own license and crew for the removal itself, and we place both visits on the job schedule.

Naples and Marco Island each say a survey must be filed with the state environmental agency when a building contains asbestos. The state asks for written notice at least ten working days before a regulated project begins, and a city or county permit does not replace it.

Where it hides depends on the building. Older Collier County homes and commercial buildings may carry it in floor tile and mastic, ceiling texture, roofing, siding and pipe wrap. Storm repairs can leave old and new material side by side, and a survey sorts them.

Waste moves separately, with the abatement firm and under its own rules. The address, the building's age and any earlier report are all we need to line up the survey.

Order of work

  1. Collection of earlier reports and the building's history
  2. Survey by an independent licensed consultant
  3. Review of results and abatement scope
  4. State filing, timed to the notice period
  5. Removal of the material by a licensed abatement firm
  6. Clearance confirmed before demolition continues
  7. Demolition and haul of the remaining debris

Common snags

What tends to hold these jobs up, and our answer to each

Where it hides

Floor tile, ceiling texture, roofing and siding can all contain it. A survey reads every layer before demolition.

The ten-day clock

Written notice must reach the state at least ten working days before a regulated project starts, so ours goes in as soon as the survey is back.

Mixed repairs

A building repaired after storms can mix old and new materials. The survey separates them.

A separate waste stream

Asbestos waste is handled and disposed of apart from other debris, by the abatement firm.

Where our role ends

Abatement is not something Romco does. Independent firms hold the licenses for testing and removal, and the state filing is routed to a separate office. Ask which one serves Collier County before you file.

Questions

About asbestos coordination

Should my house be tested for asbestos before it comes down?

A single home with four or fewer units is generally outside the federal rule, yet the building may still contain asbestos and some offices ask for a statement anyway. We suggest testing in every case.

Can Romco remove the asbestos itself?

No. A licensed abatement firm does. Romco coordinates the survey, the filing and the removal so demolition can proceed.

What goes into the cost of a demolition?

A quote comes after we visit the property, or after we review photos and drawings that show enough. The price follows the building's materials and height, the asbestos survey, utility and septic work, how machines reach the lot, what stays, and where the debris goes. We do not publish prices, because two lots that look alike seldom cost alike.

Is there a size limit on the jobs you price?

No limit. Sheds, pools, slabs and single walls get a quote, and so do whole buildings, selective or structural. Describe what stands on the lot and what must stay, and the price follows that description.

Is Romco Builders licensed?

Yes. Romco Builders is a Florida-licensed general contractor with headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Some tasks need a license or permit of their own, among them asbestos abatement, electrical disconnects, septic abandonment and tree removal. Those go to the firms or agencies with that authority, and we fit them into a single schedule.

Start to finish

Six stages in a fixed order

  1. Send the address and the scope

Ring us or use the quote form, and attach photos or drawings if you have them. Give the area, what has to go and what has to stay.

  2. We walk the site

We visit the lot and look at the building, the utility connections, septic or sewer, the flood zone, how machines and trucks will get in, and the neighbors.

  3. Written scope and quote

A written quote lists what comes out, what is shielded, and what leaves by truck. Anything that depends on a survey is marked.

  4. Surveys, permit and disconnects

Required asbestos testing, utility shutoffs and septic abandonment happen here, and the permit goes to the office that covers your parcel.

  5. Demolition and haul-off

The crew follows the agreed order of work. Debris is taken to permitted facilities, and load records are kept.

  6. Final inspection

The permit is closed by the building department after its last inspection, leaving a clear lot or the shell you requested.
