Everglades City, Collier County

Demolition in Everglades City

Everglades City runs no building department of its own. Under an interlocal agreement signed in July 2018, Collier County provides the building services, so a demolition here follows the county's file even though the property sits inside a city.

The town is built for water. Hurricane Irma put up to six feet of water at the Everglades National Park Gulf Coast Visitor Center, according to the National Weather Service, with two to four feet common across town. Hurricane Ian then sent surge into the county again five years later.

That history explains the jobs we are asked about. Houses that were gutted and left, houses waiting to be elevated, and ground-level enclosures under raised homes all need different handling. A stilt house leaves pilings and a slab, and a flooded one calls for a licensed survey for mold before anyone works inside.

The city's own page lists a local office for permits and inspections open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and the county page lists weekday hours at its government center. Which one you use depends on the step, so we confirm before sending anyone to a counter.

What we quote in Everglades City

Demolition work we quote in this area

Start to finish

Six stages in a fixed order

Romco Builders is a licensed Florida general contractor, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale. These stages apply whether the job is a small shed or a large building.

  1. Send the address and the scope

Ring us or use the quote form, and attach photos or drawings if you have them. Give the area, what has to go and what has to stay.

  2. We walk the site

We visit the lot and look at the building, the utility connections, septic or sewer, the flood zone, how machines and trucks will get in, and the neighbors.

  3. Written scope and quote

A written quote lists what comes out, what is shielded, and what leaves by truck. Anything that depends on a survey is marked.

  4. Surveys, permit and disconnects

Required asbestos testing, utility shutoffs and septic abandonment happen here, and the permit goes to the office that covers your parcel.

  5. Demolition and haul-off

The crew follows the agreed order of work. Debris is taken to permitted facilities, and load records are kept.

  6. Final inspection

The permit is closed by the building department after its last inspection, leaving a clear lot or the shell you requested.

Questions

Demolition in Everglades City

Who handles a demolition permit for a house inside Everglades City?

Collier County provides building services to the city under an interlocal agreement dated July 2018, and the city lists a local office for permits and inspections. Ask both which one takes your application.

What goes into the cost of a demolition?

A quote comes after we visit the property, or after we review photos and drawings that show enough. The price follows the building's materials and height, the asbestos survey, utility and septic work, how machines reach the lot, what stays, and where the debris goes. We do not publish prices, because two lots that look alike seldom cost alike.

What is done about asbestos before a demolition?

Testing comes first, by an independent licensed consultant, since the federal asbestos rule wants a thorough inspection ahead of a regulated demolition. Naples and Marco Island both say a survey is filed with the state environmental agency where asbestos is present. When material is found that the job would disturb, a licensed abatement firm takes it out. We schedule the two visits but never perform abatement.

How long until work can begin?

That cannot be answered honestly before the facts are in. The start moves with permit review at your office, notice periods like the fourteen days Naples gives neighbors, historic review, utility and septic paperwork, asbestos findings and the weather. We hand you the order of work, with each dependency named, once those are known.
