Structural demolition in Collier County

Structural demolition removes the parts that hold a building up: concrete frames, elevated slabs, steel, piles and footings. In Collier County much of it stands close to the Gulf, a canal or a bay.

A multistory building with its outer walls gone, leaving exposed floor slabs, columns and hanging rebar.

That closeness changes the work. Foundations here sit in sandy ground with a shallow water table, so digging below grade often means dewatering and supporting the excavation. Romco's own crews perform dewatering, Support of Excavation (a system that keeps a deep cut from collapsing) and deep foundation work, in tidal ground as well.

Storm-damaged structures need extra thought. A building that took surge may look sound and still have cracked columns or undermined footings. An engineer assesses it first and defines the order of removal, and exclusion zones go around anything unstable.

Dust, vibration and falling material have to stay on the lot. Controls and hours are agreed with the permit office and, in occupied areas, with the neighbors.

Drawings, an engineer's report if one exists, and photographs of the damage are the useful starting points. The engineered steps are priced as their own lines.

Order of work

  1. Structure walk, plus review of drawings and any engineer's report
  2. Asbestos survey and utility shutoffs
  3. Engineer's shoring design and removal order
  4. Permit and any state or marine approvals
  5. Perimeter, dust control and exclusion zones
  6. Frame and slabs removed in sequence, with concrete and steel sorted
  7. Foundations cut or pulled, backfill placed, final inspection

Common snags

What tends to hold these jobs up, and our answer to each

Groundwater close to the surface

Cutting below grade near the coast lets water in. Dewatering and shoring are part of our own work.

Hidden surge damage

Undermined footings and cracked columns do not always show. An engineer assesses the structure before demolition.

Piles beside a seawall

Pulling or cutting piles near a seawall can disturb it. The sequence is planned to protect what remains.

Dust and vibration at the fence line

Controls and working hours are agreed with the permit office before work starts.

Where our role ends

Structural engineering for shoring and sequence comes from a licensed engineer. Approvals for work near the water or along a state-regulated shoreline are separate filings that we coordinate.

Questions

About structural demolition

Can you demolish a building that took storm surge?

We quote it. An engineer's assessment comes first and sets the removal order, and those steps are priced separately in the scope.

Do you handle pilings and deep foundations?

Yes. Romco self-performs dewatering, Support of Excavation and deep foundations. What is below grade, and how near the water sits, drives the scope.

What goes into the cost of a demolition?

A quote comes after we visit the property, or after we review photos and drawings that show enough. The price follows the building's materials and height, the asbestos survey, utility and septic work, how machines reach the lot, what stays, and where the debris goes. We do not publish prices, because two lots that look alike seldom cost alike.

Is there a size limit on the jobs you price?

No limit. Sheds, pools, slabs and single walls get a quote, and so do whole buildings, selective or structural. Describe what stands on the lot and what must stay, and the price follows that description.

Is Romco Builders licensed?

Yes. Romco Builders is a Florida-licensed general contractor with headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Some tasks need a license or permit of their own, among them asbestos abatement, electrical disconnects, septic abandonment and tree removal. Those go to the firms or agencies with that authority, and we fit them into a single schedule.

Start to finish

Six stages in a fixed order

  1. Send the address and the scope

Ring us or use the quote form, and attach photos or drawings if you have them. Give the area, what has to go and what has to stay.

  2. We walk the site

We visit the lot and look at the building, the utility connections, septic or sewer, the flood zone, how machines and trucks will get in, and the neighbors.

  3. Written scope and quote

A written quote lists what comes out, what is shielded, and what leaves by truck. Anything that depends on a survey is marked.

  4. Surveys, permit and disconnects

Required asbestos testing, utility shutoffs and septic abandonment happen here, and the permit goes to the office that covers your parcel.

  5. Demolition and haul-off

The crew follows the agreed order of work. Debris is taken to permitted facilities, and load records are kept.

  6. Final inspection

The permit is closed by the building department after its last inspection, leaving a clear lot or the shell you requested.
